Sao Sebastiao lies on the east coast of Brazil between Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. The town is a recreational area for Sao Paulo inhabitants. It is beautifully situated between the coast of the south Atlantic and the mountain ridge of the Mata Atlantica and is spread out over a total length of nearly 100km.
In the past, Sao Sebastiao has always played the role of forerunner in questions of environmental protection issues. The present mayor introduced some years ago a separate waste collection. Sao Sebastiao is one of the first towns to pass environmental law.

First contacts between the town and the Faber company were made in 1999. In April 2000 a contract was signed between the two for the introduction of the FABER-AMBRA®-process for mechanical-biological pre-treatment of the towns waste.
In co-operation with the GTZ in Germany, in this case in the MBA field with guidance from Mrs Elke Hüttner and the employees of the PPP department, a joint project was brought to life.
This project entails the training of the community employees on a proper waste disposal dump site and in the use of mechanical-biological waste treatment.
Over a period of one year, the appropriate community employees will be trained by German and Brazilian experts and the project success is expected by following practical applications.

So far, the results have satisfied all parties. The scientific results of the Sao Sebastiao dump site confirm the results from the Rio de Janeiro pilot project.
The enclosed pictures display the model dump (heap ?) in Sao Sebastiao from which the employees can check their own work independently.
Two homogenising drums mechanically treat up to 200 tons of waste daily, before the biological treatment on the rotting heaps takes place.
With the introduction of the FABER-AMBRA®-process the situation of the waste disposal site in Sao Sebastiao has visibly improved.
